A newborn puppy

During the first three weeks of life, puppies are extremely vulnerable and depend almost entirely on their mother for care. Their eyes usually remain closed until they are about 10 days old, and their hearing begins to develop around the second week.

During this stage, the mother dog handles most of the feeding and cleaning, while my main responsibility is to ensure:

🐾 the mother eats and drinks well, feels safe and is clean;

🐾 the puppies are eating, gaining weight, warm, safe, and clean.

ENS & ESI

Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) and Early Scent Introduction (ESI) are gentle exercises introduced to puppies between days 3 and 16 to support healthy development, resilience, and coping skills. These activities are quick and simple to perform but can provide lasting benefits as puppies grow.

ENS involves a series of mild handling exercises designed to encourage neurological development and help puppies better adapt to stress later in life.

ESI introduces puppies to a variety of scents during this critical developmental period, helping to build confidence and strengthen their ability to process new experiences.
